Sligo – 2012/13 Championship Round 2

October Bank Holiday Weekend

The 2nd round of the Irish Power Kite and Sandyacht Association 2012 – 2013 Season took place on Streedagh Beach in Co.Sligo.
Last years 2 Sligo events were absolute crackers and our trips to Sligo have always been in order to accommodate our miniyacht and Kiting friends in the West of Ireland.
Sadly since our last event in Sligo on a sunny March weekend we have lost one of the true characters involved in our sport, Dinny October Bank Holiday Weekend
The 2nd round of the Irish Power Kite and Sandyacht Association 2012 – 2013 Season took place on Streedagh Beach in Co.Sligo. Light wind and glorious sunshine was the order of the day on Saturday, this lowed time for training and helping newcomers as conditions were suitable for only one race in each class. Sunday, started very wet and windy but as luck would have it it dried up as we set up on the beach. Conditions being now perfect a number of races were held in all classes .  The races are being hailed as some of the closest run for quite some time. A big welcome to all the new faces and we hope that you had as much fun as we did. Next round is on Sepoint beach, Termonfeckin, Drogheda, co. Louth on Dec 8&9.
the 20012 Sligo events were absolute crackers and our trips to Sligo have always been in order to accommodate our miniyacht friends in the West of Ireland.   Sadly since our last event in Sligo on a sunny March weekend we have lost one of the true characters involved in our sport, Dinny Kelly. Dinny from Rathcormac, made it his personal responsibility to keep the Sligo miniyacht contingent communicating and sailing with each other and had a truly natural sailing style which was only equaled by his inventiveness.  The Oct 2012 Sligo event was dedicated to Dinny. Fair sailing Dinny. RIP.
